Computer-Based Testing (CBT)

In development. A ParikshaXpert Computer-Based Testing platform, being built to run examinations of any size under one accountable operator — from a small internal test to a large national recruitment exam.

What we do

This platform is in active development — it is not yet a live service. What follows describes what ParikshaXpert's Computer-Based Testing operation is being built to do.

A Computer-Based Test is not a software product. It is an operation. The platform is one component. The exam-day setup at the centre is another. The proctoring is another. The candidate-support helpdesk is another. The result generation is another. When any one of these breaks during a live window, the exam fails — and the platform vendor is never the one held accountable.

ParikshaXpert is building the whole operation. The intent is simple: the conducting body brings the question bank and the candidate roster, and we handle everything between the candidate clicking "Start" and the published merit list.

The platform is being built for:

  • Recruitment examinations — central and state recruitment boards
  • University entrance and semester examinations
  • Professional certification examinations
  • Internal institutional tests at coaching institutes and corporate training programs
  • Hybrid examinations combining CBT for objective sections with OSM for descriptive sections

How it's designed to work

Question bank. You supply the question bank — single-answer, multiple-answer, true/false, numeric, comprehension sets, or any combination. The platform is being built to load it, tag by subject and difficulty, set the cut-offs, and run an internal test before any candidate sees a paper.

Randomised papers. Papers are drawn from the bank by your rules — how many from each section, each difficulty, each topic — and question and option order are designed to be randomised per candidate, to deter copying.

Examination centres. For the live service we will run certified CBT centres, or set one up at your premises. Every centre will pass a checklist first — sufficient workstations, backup internet and power, biometric attendance, CCTV, an isolated network — and be signed off before the first live examination.

Candidate authentication. The design verifies each candidate at the centre by fingerprint or face match against your roster, so no one can sit the examination in another candidate's place.

Examination delivery. The candidate logs in, the paper loads, the timer starts. The platform is built to save every 30 seconds, and if a workstation fails mid-examination it is designed to restore the candidate with their answers intact and the timer adjusted for the lost time. That save log forms part of the audit trail.

Proctoring. Proctors will be present in the hall, with camera-based remote proctoring available as a second layer where required. Any flagged behaviour is logged with a timestamp and the proctor's ID.

Scoring and results. The platform is built to score against the answer key the moment a candidate submits. Normalisation across shifts will be configurable to your policy, and the result file is designed to arrive in the format you require, with the full audit trail.

Dispute resolution. Every candidate's answer sequence is kept with timestamps, so a disputed result can be answered from the record. Challenge rounds and key revisions will be configurable to your process.

What the operation is built to deliver

  • The CBT platform — secure, audit-trailed, configurable to the conducting body's exam structure
  • Exam centres for the live service — workstations, network, power backup, biometric and CCTV, certified before the first live examination
  • Exam-day operations — invigilators, proctors, technical support, helpdesk
  • Result file — scored, normalised if required, in the conducting body's format
  • Audit log — every candidate's session, every response, every flag, every proctor action
  • Optional: scorecard generation — per-candidate scorecards delivered digitally or printed
  • Optional: integration with the conducting body's downstream result system

What sets the work apart

One operator, accountable end to end. The platform, the centre, the proctoring, the helpdesk and the result generation are designed to sit under one operationally accountable organisation. So when something goes wrong, there is no platform vendor blaming the centre, no centre blaming the proctors, no proctors blaming the helpdesk. ParikshaXpert is being built to answer for the whole examination.

Centres proven before exam day, not on it. The design puts the centre checklist weeks ahead — workstation count, redundancy, power, network — with the conducting body's nominated officer signing off before any candidate arrives. The intent is a centre that is ready in advance, not set up the day before.

Mid-exam recovery, not mid-exam failure. Workstations crash. Internet flickers. Power blinks. The platform is being built to auto-save every 30 seconds, and the recovery flow is designed to rejoin the candidate to their session with responses intact and the timer adjusted — so a technical wobble does not become the candidate's problem.

Audit trail built for disputes. The platform is designed to timestamp every keystroke, every response, every save and every flag. So when a candidate disputes a result months after the merit list, the record can answer the question without needing us in the room.

Honest sizing. Not every examination should be CBT. For some institutional tests, paper-and-OMR is more economical and more reliable. We will advise you when CBT is not the right choice for your examination, rather than recommend the platform regardless.

Pricing

CBT pricing is per-candidate and depends on:

  • Candidate volume
  • Number of centres
  • Centre setup complexity (new build vs. use of existing)
  • Number of exam shifts (single-day single-shift vs. multi-day multi-shift)
  • Proctoring level (centre-only vs. centre + remote)
  • Result-delivery format and integration

Pricing turns on the mix above. Because the platform is still in development, we scope figures against a specific examination structure and centre plan rather than publish a rate card — tell us the exam and we will walk you through the model.

Trust signals

  • ISO 9001:2015 certified facility
  • CMMI Level 3 process maturity
  • DPIIT Startup India recognised
  • UPDESCO + UPTRON empanelled vendor
  • CBT platform in active development, built on the same audit-trail model proven in our live OMR and result-processing operations
  • Designed from the outset for biometric authentication, mid-session recovery and bilingual delivery
  • Backed by Booknerd's live examination services — question-paper printing, secure logistics, OMR scanning and result processing — and our UPDESCO and UPTRON empanelments

How to start

For institutional enquiries:

  1. Examination name and conducting body
  2. Candidate volume and geography
  3. Examination structure — sections, marking scheme, timing, normalisation policy
  4. Centre preference — our centres (once the service is live), or a setup at your premises
  5. Examination date and result-publication deadline
  6. Any specific platform integrations the downstream result system requires

FAQ

Q. Do you provide the question bank or do we? The conducting body always supplies the question bank. We ingest, tag, and configure delivery. We do not write questions.

Q. What if a workstation crashes during the candidate's session? The platform is being built to auto-save every 30 seconds. On a crash, the candidate will move to a standby workstation, log back in, and rejoin their session with responses intact and the timer adjusted for the downtime — standard recovery, logged in the audit trail.

Q. How do you prevent proxy candidates? The design requires biometric authentication (fingerprint or face match) against the conducting body's candidate roster at the centre, before the exam starts. No biometric, no exam access.

Q. Can the exam be delivered in regional languages? The platform is being built for bilingual and multilingual delivery — candidates choose language at the start. Hindi + English at launch, with further regional languages (including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi) on the roadmap.

Q. What's the smallest CBT examination you'll do? Around 1,000 candidates. Below that the centre setup and platform configuration overhead makes CBT uneconomic compared to paper-and-OMR.

Q. Can we integrate your platform with our existing student-information system? That is the intent. The platform is being built with standard APIs for candidate-roster import, result export and audit-trail export — the same integration approach our live result-processing operation already uses with university and board systems.
